Sounds of Margate: Margate Radio

Margate Radio will produce and create a limited edition vinyl mini lp. The audio and production of all elements will be by Margate artist, services and/or companies. This includes music productions, field recordings, dialog, vinyl cutting, sleeve design and production, along with any special inserts. It will then be presented at a listening event.

What is your practice?

Community Radio Station

What drew you to this artform?

A need for a open platform to share ideas, tell stories and make connection within the community of Margate.

Who is your art hero?

Don’t have one

As restrictions are lifting where will you be heading to first in Margate?

The dump

Tell us a bit about this place

The dump is a great resource to get rid of rubbish, especially garden waste.

What do you see the artists role being in the overall effort to dismantle systemic racism?

As the system can not / will not reform itself it is left to the individual, small groups, communities etc to educate themselves and force change. If one is in an influential position, one must decide how they will use that influence, and who it will benefit.

“The Artist’s role is to raise the consciousness of the people. To make them understand life, the world and themselves more completely. That’s how I see it. Otherwise, I don’t know why you do it.” – Amiri Baraka
