A solo exhibition of recent work using marine plastic found on the beaches of and around Margate.
Although the problem of plastic pollution seems to be incredibly current, much of the plastic in our ocean’s dates from past decades right up to the present. This plastic, the wonder material of the 21st century will be a marker for our time now in the geological strata of the future.
Since 2007 Margate born Artist Steve McPherson’s primary material for his art practice has been the plastic objects that wash ashore on the beaches near his home.
His solo exhibition ‘…in the future.’ in the heart of Margate’s old town this November, presents recent works, including collage, photography, installation and sculpture using marine plastic found on the beaches of Thanet.
Steve McPhersons works highlights both the global and the local problem of our marine environment and our consumption of this seemingly inert material that literally envelopes our lives.
Although the problem of plastic pollution seems to be incredibly current, much of the plastic in our ocean’s dates from past decades right up to the present. The wonder material of the 21st century will be a marker for our time in the geological strata of the future – the Anthropocene.
Steve McPherson is an internationally exhibited artist whose practice includes assemblage, collections, sculpture, installation, book works, photography, and sound.
